SUMMARY:Data Service Cards Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to know how to enhance or develop new data-based services? Then\, join our webinar on 10th February\, to find out how the Safe-DEED Data Service Cards can inspire you. Register here. \nThe availability of data sources (internal\, external\, existing\, and new) and advances in privacy-preserving technologies (e.g. anonymization\, multi-party computation) and artificial intelligence opens up massive business opportunities.  It enables companies to develop new data-driven products\, services and business models. In order to generate concrete added value from data\, the knowledge of how a data-driven service is developed must be built up in the company. A lack of structured value proposition design and a limited understanding of customer needs are challenges in developing data-driven services. Another challenge is the necessary collaboration of different disciplines e.g. data scientists\, domain experts and business people. So far few tools are available which facilitate the creativity and co-creation process amongst teams with different backgrounds in the development process of data-driven business models. Therefore we have set ourselves the goal in WP2 to develop or adapt methods and tools that support the development of Data-Driven Business Models. \nThe Safe-DEED Data Service Cards help you to enhance or develop new data-based services through the systematic combination of data sources\, analysis methods\, customer benefits and revenue opportunities. Use the 50 cards as inspiration in the development process of data-driven innovations. As an extension\, you can use the Data Service Cards in combination with the Safe-DEED Data Driven Business Canvas. \nCheck out the Data Service Cards here for free.

SUMMARY:15th International Conference on Modeling and Analysis of Semiconductor Manufacturing (MASM) 2019
DESCRIPTION:The 2019 International Conference on Modeling and Analysis of Semiconductor Manufacturing (MASM) aims to again be a forum for the exchange of ideas and industrial innovations between researchers and practitioners from around the world involved in modeling and analysis of complex high-tech manufacturing systems. We are convinced of the worth and importance of the continuation of the MASM events held in Tempe\, Arizona in 2000 and 2002\, Singapore in 2005\, Miami\, Florida in 2008\, Austin\, Texas in 2009\, Baltimore\, Maryland in 2010\, Phoenix\, Arizona in 2011\, Berlin\, Germany in 2012\, Washington\, DC in 2013\, Savannah\, Georgia in 2014\, Huntington Beach\, California in 2015\, Washington\, DC in 2016\, Las Vegas\, Nevada in 2017\, and Gothenburg\, Sweden in 2018. \nThe MASM 2019 conference will be fully contained within the Winter Simulation Conference 2019 (WSC 2019)\, the leading conference in discrete-event simulation. However\, MASM 2019 covers a much wider range of techniques and approaches than simulation (e.g. optimization\, scheduling\, queueing theory\, process control\, data analysis\, machine learning). WSC 2019 features a comprehensive program ranging from introductory tutorials to state-of-the-art research and practice. WSC 2019 will take place in National Harbor\, Maryland. All attendees of the MASM conference will register for WSC 2019 at the same cost. All participants of WSC 2019 can attend MASM 2019 sessions. \nWe are looking for high-quality academic and applied research at all levels of semiconductor manufacturing. \n\nAt the equipment and process level\, we would like to cover various aspects of Equipment Maintenance and Productivity\, Quality and Advanced Process Control (Statistical Process Control\, Fault Detection and Classification\, Run To Run\, Virtual Metrology\, …)\, but also how to handle and exploit the huge amount of data generated in semiconductor factories (big data). We are particularly interested in having presentations from leading semiconductor equipment manufacturers this year.\nAt the shop-floor level\, optimized WIP management\, dispatching\, scheduling and sampling of lots or qualification management of products on machines remain critical in particular when handling new complex constraints.\nAt the factory level\, it is important to develop efficient transportation and storage policies\, production and capacity planning approaches\, as well as cycle time improvements and time-to-market reductions.\nAt the strategic level\, demand planning\, factory economics and cost modeling\, new product introduction\, and supply chain efficiency are important topics to support the business.\n\nWe invite participants to present on all topics related to modeling and analysis that will help address these challenges. We also welcome contributions that integrate decisions or information at different decision levels\, which is becoming a must. These various goals will be attained through new advanced control and statistical methods\, computing techniques\, and operations research methods. While the MASM conference is mostly focused on the current semiconductor industry state-of-the-art\, neither presenters nor attendees need to be in the IC industry to participate. We are interested in methodologies\, research and/or applications from other related industries such as TFT-LCD\, flexible displays\, bio-chip\, solid state lighting (LED)\, and photovoltaic (PV) that might also share or want to share common and new practices. \nAuthors of high-quality submissions will have the opportunity to submit considerably extended versions of their MASM contributions to IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing. \nThe conference includes tutorials and related software demonstrations within the Winter Simulation Conference 2019. A broad range of papers is sought\, including theoretical developments\, applied research\, and case studies. Interested individuals within academia\, government agencies\, equipment suppliers\, manufacturers\, students\, contractors\, and other interested parties are encouraged to participate. \nMASM 2019 will feature a keynote talk by Dr. Sabine Herlitschka\, Chief Executive Officer of Infineon Technologies Austria AG. \nInfineon will attend the conference.

SUMMARY:Data Properties as Economic Goods and Data Markets
DESCRIPTION:The IG-DE meeting at RDA14 will continue building on the interest from the community and entusiasm of the researchers and practotioners working with research data\, industrial data and  data exchnage infrastructure. The IG also plans to benefit from the recent Horizon 2020 call on emerging data markets that will create few strong research centers in Europe on topics related to data  markets and data economics. \nEmerging data driven technologies and economy facilitate interest to making data a new economic value (data commoditisation) and consequently identification of the new properties of data as economic goods. Creating consistent and workable models for data exchange and commoditisation is critical to facilitating research data usage\, creation of new value added data driven services bringing additional resources to research organisations. Consistent data pricing and data markets models are equally important for government funded and sponsored research\, open data and governmental data. A number of examples from industry demonstrate practical interest to facilitate and obtain value from data exchange\, interoperability\, and adopting common architectures for data markets. \nAs part of this trend\, existing business models of paid or commercial data(sets) services such as archives are based rather on services subscription fee. Quality of datasets in many cases is assessed by independent certification body or based on peer review by expert. This type of model is useful for specific use cases\, although this does not provide a consistent model to make data an economic goods and enable data commoditisation. Another key factor is growing interest in making the best use of research data resulted in formulation of the FAIR (Findable – Accessible – Interoperable – Reusable) data principles\, which are widely supported by industry and business. \nThe  IG meeting will address issues related to data commoditisation\, first of all definition of properties that will make effective data exchange and trading.

SUMMARY:Annual Privacy Forum 2019
DESCRIPTION:Electronic communication networks and interconnected digital services have become ubiquitous as they have permeated every fold of everyday life. At a time when automated profiling and electronic surveillance have become commodities\, citizens and businesses alike may face limitations and threats when they have personal data processed or seek to protect their privacy on the internet or when using general communication services. Limitations in the transparency\, the functionality and interconnectivity of online and communication services increases the risk of having personal data processed out of control of any accountable person or organization or simply becoming exposed to all sorts of privacy threats.\n\nThe recalibrated legal framework in the EU as manifested by the promulgation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)\, is key in an effort to better control the processing of personal data. Additionally\, the forthcoming Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications is expected to give new impetus to the way privacy is protected in electronic communications. Even the best legislative efforts cannot keep up to speed with the pace of innovative technology and business models that challenge the way personal data is processed and privacy is protected across the EU and beyond; therefore\, examining what is at stake and where threats thereto originate from becomes of paramount importance.\n\nLS Tech will attend the conference.

SUMMARY:2nd International Data Science Conference 2019
DESCRIPTION:Organizations have moved already from the rigid structure of classical project management towards the adoption of agile approaches. This holds also true for software development projects\, which need to be flexible to adopt to rapid requests of clients as well to reflect changes that are required due to architectural design decisions. With data science having established itself as corner stone within organizations and businesses\, it is now imperative to perform this crucial step for analytical business processes as well. The non-deterministic nature of data science and its inherent analytical tasks require an interactive approach towards an evolutionary step-by-step development to realize core essential business applications and use-cases. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2nd International Data Science Conference (iDSC 2019) brings together researchers\, scientists\, and business experts to discuss means of establishing new ways of embracing agile approaches within the various domains of data science\, such as machine learning and AI\, data mining\, or visualization and communication as well as case studies and best-practices from leading research institutions and business companies. \nThe RSA FG will attend this conference.

SUMMARY:Towards Value-Centric Big Data: Connect People\, Processes and Technology
DESCRIPTION:The need for privacy-preserving technologies grows continuously with information systems becoming increasingly networked within organisations and civil society\, and datasets getting larger and more heterogeneous. However\, although many big data solutions affect society as a whole\, privacy-preserving technologies are integrated into them only to a limited extent.\nWhen taking a closer look at the situation\, one notices quickly that there is a rather low demand for big data solutions that help protect privacy. It seems that users and citizens are blinded by the benefits they get in return for their personal data and that operators can well live with the current situation. \nIt would be important to embed security and privacy features based on these technologies in big data solutions. The technologies would have to be configured to provide a high level of privacy protection by default. While current research offers strong solutions\, these solutions are rarely used in practice.\nThere is a strong need to consider people\, process and technology at the same time when it comes to making value-centric big data a reality.\nThis e-SIDES workshop aims to gather all actors whose work and active engagement can promote responsible research and innovation in the field of big data paving the way to design and deploy the next generation of big data solutions. \nThis event is a key opportunity not only for people from science\, industry and politics but also for representatives of civil society organisations to contribute to the debate on how big data solutions can be developed and used in a responsible way\, protecting societal values to the greatest possible extent.\nThe workshop will be highly interactive and call for attendees’ contribution to the discussion. The morning session will be dedicated to high level keynote speakers and presentations\, while the afternoon session will host the knowledge café “towards responsible big data”. \nPreliminary Workshop Agenda \nMorning Session 09.30-12.00 \n09.30 Registration and welcome coffee\n10.00 Opening and introduction\n10.10 “You’re monitoring my what…?!” – Balancing privacy against enhanced security outcomes. – Duncan Brown\, EMEA Chief Security Strategist\, Forcepoint\n10.30 e-SIDES presentation: The community paper on RRI guidelines for big data: why we need it and how we can work together\n10.45 Big Data Value PPP projects presentations\n11.30 Keynote presentation (TBD)\n11.50 Morning session Q&A\n12.00 Networking Lunch \nAfternoon Session 13.00-16.00 \n13.00 Knowledge café: towards responsible big data\n15.00 Knowledge café reporting to the plenary and open discussion\n16.00 End of workshop \nRegistration is free but mandatory\nIf you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us info@e-sides.eu or saguzzi@idc.com \nAlessandro Bruni from KU Leuven will be representing Safe-DEED!

SUMMARY:AI Law & Ethics Conference
DESCRIPTION:Through the looking glass of AI platforms: Between global governance and techno-regulation?\nThe Centre for IT & IP Law is organizing a conference on AI Law & Ethics on the 28th of February. \nThe advancement in data science\, together with the growing availability of data have contributed to the flourishing of inter-operable platforms\, where AI is increasingly used. The conference will focus on the multilevel legal and ethical challenges regarding the impact of consumer and industrial platforms on consumers\, contributors and end-users. \nThe increasing availability of these data by platforms risks creating potential power asymmetries between individuals and companies with a consequential lowering of individual legal protections. \nThe conference moves from the assumption that the interoperability of these platforms should be ensured not only at a technical level but also at a legal and ethical one. \nThe conference aims to explore whether this could be obtained through a commonly agreed (global) governance model that can ensure a ‘sustainable’ evolution of these platforms.
